  • Romance scams: Fraudsters create fake online personas, sometimes impersonating celebrities, to build romantic relationships and extract money or personal information. These scams cost Americans over 65 more than $389 million last year.
  • Impersonation / Deepfake AI scams: A scammer pretends to be an individual, company, or agency — like your grandchild, your bank, or the IRS. AI can now clone voices from seconds of audio. Always verify who is contacting you. If something doesn't seem right, it probably isn't.
  • Tech support scams: These scammers impersonate IT professionals from Microsoft, Apple, or Geek Squad in order to take over your computer or steal your information. This cost seniors $982 million last year.
  • Investment scams: Fake investment platforms and cryptocurrency schemes that build trust over months before stealing everything. The #1 scam by dollar amount — $1.8 billion in losses.
