1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using elderus.org (the "Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Site. Elderus Advisors ("Elderus," "we," "us," or "our") reserves the right to update these terms at any time. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
2. Description of Service
Elderus provides elder fraud education, awareness, and research through a publicly accessible website. Our services include:
Scam Checker: An interactive tool that analyzes text descriptions or screenshots of suspicious communications and provides guidance on whether they may be fraudulent. The Scam Checker uses pattern matching and artificial intelligence technology provided by Anthropic, Inc.
Fraud Library: Educational guides covering 30+ fraud types, organized by category.
Article Database: A curated archive of 22,000+ fraud-related news articles from 500+ sources.
Newsletter: Email newsletters providing scam alerts and prevention advice.
FraudShield: A guided conversation resource for families discussing fraud prevention.
3. Scam Checker — Disclaimer and Limitations
The Scam Checker is an educational tool, not a guarantee. It uses keyword pattern matching and heuristic analysis to identify potential scams. It is not a substitute for professional legal, financial, or law enforcement advice.
The Scam Checker cannot and does not guarantee:
— That all scams will be detected. New scam types emerge constantly, and our pattern database may not cover every variant.
— That all results will be accurate. Legitimate communications may sometimes match scam patterns, and real scams may not trigger a match.
— That screenshot analysis will always extract text correctly. Image quality, formatting, and language variations may affect results.
— That following our guidance will prevent all financial loss. Always consult with trusted family members, financial advisors, or law enforcement when in doubt.
Elderus assumes no liability for actions taken or not taken based on Scam Checker results.
4. Third-Party AI Processing
The Scam Checker's screenshot analysis feature uses artificial intelligence technology provided by Anthropic, Inc. When you upload a screenshot, the image is transmitted to Anthropic's API for text extraction. By using the screenshot feature, you acknowledge that your uploaded content may be processed by Anthropic subject to their applicable terms and policies. We do not send text-based Scam Checker submissions to any third party — text analysis is performed locally using our own pattern-matching engine.
5. Intellectual Property
All content on this Site — including text, design, the FraudShield Flywheel framework, educational guides, and the article database — is the property of Elderus Advisors or its content licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. News articles linked from this Site remain the property of their respective publishers. You may share links to our content freely but may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our proprietary materials without written permission.
6. User Conduct
You agree not to use the Site to submit content that is illegal, threatening, abusive, or harmful; attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network; interfere with any other user's use and enjoyment of the Site; or use the Scam Checker to generate content for any unlawful purpose.
7. Article Database
The article database on this Site is a curated collection of publicly available news articles about fraud. We link to original sources and do not reproduce full article text. Article classifications, summaries, and geographic mappings are generated by Elderus and may contain errors. The presence of an article in our database does not constitute an endorsement of its source, claims, or conclusions.
8. Newsletter
By subscribing to our newsletter, you consent to receive periodic emails from Elderus containing scam alerts, educational content, and information about our services. You may unsubscribe at any time by following the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email or by contacting us directly.
9. Limitation of Liability
THE SITE AND ALL SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. ELDERUS DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ELDERUS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR RELIANCE ON ANY INFORMATION PROVIDED THROUGH THE SITE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO FINANCIAL LOSSES RESULTING FROM FRAUD.
10. Indemnification

11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts located in Los Angeles County, California.
